Okanagan Lake alone can swing more than a metre between spring freshet and late summer. Other interior lakes see similar or greater variation. Floating systems rise and fall with the water without the damage a fixed dock takes.
Most interior lakes form ice each winter, and owners handle it differently — some leave docks in the water, some pull them out every fall. Interior lakes are often deeper close to shore than coastal sites. Anchoring strategies differ from tidal projects — usually a mix of stiff-arm and deadweight systems for larger installations, or pipe augers in shallower bays.
